Parks Year in Review

The District is committed to its long term sustainability of its wide variety of parks and greenbelts.

Panorama Park at Deep CoveWith its lush forests, rushing rivers, sandy beaches and mountain views, the Parks Department is a key player is maintaining the District’s unique setting and quality of life.

The department maintains over 1,101 hectares of neighbourhood, community and natural parkland for every type of sport and recreation enthusiast. Hiking and walking are our number one activity in Parks. The Parks has 140 km of trails and pathways systems which interconnect the District and run from Sea to Sky. Residents and visitors can enjoy the District’s 140 kilometers of trails, 37 Sports Fields, 39 Baseball Diamonds, 43 Tennis Courts, 5 Sport Courts, 3 Skate Parks and 53 playgrounds. The area’s rugged surroundings offer mountain biking, triathlons, kayaking, rowing and other activities that attract visitors from around the world.

With over 100 parks and facilities to manage, the Parks Department is also responsible for managing natural parkland and trees, capital planning and developing new park facilities.

Park staff also take an active role in providing public education, and coordinating park events and special programs. Their partnerships within the community have fostered a strong level of parkland volunteerism through programs like Streamkeepers, Trail Adoption, tree planting, and habitat restoration projects.
